The Limerick Strand Hotel and Cliona’s Foundation are delighted to announce that they have teamed up together as part of an official charity partnership agreement for 2023.

The partnership aims to raise vital funds that will make a huge difference to the lives of families in Limerick &  across Ireland caring for a seriously sick child while also raising awareness around the struggles associated with caring for a sick child  and the work of  Cliona’s.

This partnership will see The Limerick Strand Hotel employees organise challenging events and contribute to the fundraising efforts of the charity while also raising awareness of Cliona’s to guests & clients

The partnership was kick started with a donation of €1,215.50 from the Limerick Strand Hotel during  Christmas week which was  some of the proceeds of a raffle held at the MHL Hotel Group Staff awards nights in November

Cliona’s Foundation is a national charity that provides financial assistance to families of children with a life-limiting illness or chronic complex care needs to help with non-medical expenses related to caring for their child.

With no statutory support, Cliona’s Foundation is wholly reliant on the support of individuals and organisations.

With many families caring for a seriously sick child struggling to make ends meet, Cliona’s Foundation increased the amount allocated to qualifying families in 2022, resulting in the largest annual amount distributed since the foundation began in 2008. These families are the ones who are already crippled financially by the non-medical costs associated with caring for a sick child. They are Ireland’s forgotten families.

The unprecedented amount of €413,000 allocated to families was only possible due to the generosity of the public and a number of corporates who supported Cliona’s through donations and various fundraising initiatives.

Speaking of the importance of partnerships with high profile businesses like The Limerick Strand hotel, Co- Founder and voluntary CEO of Cliona’s Foundation Brendan Ring said “We are so grateful to The Limerick Strand hotel which is a top class facility with a reputation of excellent quality & service for choosing to partner with Cliona’s this year,  and we look forward to working with the team and making a difference to families who really need our help.    There is the added bonus of them being part of the MHL Hotel Collection with 11 other hotels all over the Country which I am sure will also help  with raising our profile”

2023 marks 15 years of working on behalf of the forgotten families of Ireland, whose daily struggles are at the heart of what Cliona’s do. So many of us are parents, we have all had to take care of a sick child at some stage in our lives. For the majority of us our precious child bounces back and all is well again, but for approximately 4,000 families in Ireland this is not the case – they face an arduous, daily struggle with long term, life-limiting illness. The partnership with The Limerick Strand aims to raise funds but also much needed awareness of this issue in Ireland.

The Limerick Strand General manager Stephen O’Connor said “On behalf of the Limerick Strand Hotel, I am delighted to announce Cliona’s Foundation as our charity partner for 2023. Cliona’s foundation aims to generate much-needed funds for sick and vulnerable children and their families all over Ireland each year. The Limerick Strand Hotel Team and I were inspired by the work of the fantastic team at Cliona’s Foundation, and we look forward to supporting them in any way we can.”

Cliona’s Foundation expects at least 200 families will apply for financial assistance this year and will need to raise a minimum of €500,000 to meet these applications.
