Cliona’s Foundation’s Inaugural Cork Corporate Lunch featuring the Infamous Reggie,

took place on Friday 21st October at The Clayton Hotel, Lapps Quay, Cork.

Sister’s Audrey McSweeney and Mary Dwyer, hosted a sold out lunch event, to raise awareness and funds in Cork on behalf of Cliona’s Foundation.

Audrey and Mary’s involvement came about when Audrey decided she wanted to help a worthy charity.  Audrey met with Cliona’s team, and after hearing about the charity, the work of the voluntary board members and the lack of exposure in Cork, Audrey offered to organise an event to raise awareness of this issue in Cork.

Audrey knew that such an event would need the best team on the ground and immediately asked her sister Mary for help in organising the event.  Mary has been involved in many charity events previously working with People In Need and Cork Simon, Audrey knew Mary’s experience would certainly be invaluable. The generous and hardworking sisters organised an incredible day raising huge funds and awareness. Cork favourite, Reggie performed to a sold-out room at The Clayton whilst renowned sports commentator entertained the guests and hosted a superb auction.

The event was a hugely successful and enjoyable day out, bookings are already confirmed for next year.

Speaking at the event, about the importance of fundraising events for the organisation, was Cliona’s voluntary board member Susan Daly, Susan and  her family have travelled the hard journey of the families Cliona’s help and were once a beneficiary of the foundation.

Co-Founder and voluntary CEO of Cliona’s Brendan Ring said “So many of these families experienced, and continue to experience, the significant non-medical costs of caring for a child with a life-limiting condition. We are incredibly grateful to Audrey, Mary and everyone who attended the lunch and ensuring it’s success”

Sister’s Audrey McSweeney and Mary Dwyer, hosted a sold out lunch event, to raise awareness and funds in Cork on behalf of Cliona’s Foundation. Cliona’s Foundation is a national charity providing financial assistance directly to parents of children with life-limiting or chronic complex care needs across Ireland to help with the non-medical expenses related to caring for their child. Cliona’s have been helping families all over Ireland since 2008. To date the foundation has provided financial assistance for almost 1,100 families, 144 in Cork alone.

The foundation was set up by Brendan and Terry Ring, following the death of their daughter Cliona, from an inoperable brain tumour in 2006 aged 15. Over the years, as Cliona underwent numerous different hospital treatments, Brendan and Terry were struck by the number of families, facing enormous financial hardship, on the brink of financial free-fall, blindsided by non-medical expenses piling up. They saw at first-hand the enormous toll it took on these families, already struggling to cope with the nightmare of having a seriously ill child. They decided to take action and set up Cliona’s Foundation, in honour of their daughter, a charity that provides financial assistance to families with children who have life limiting conditions.
