With the sun reigning Cliona’s supporters were out in force over the June bank holiday weekend participating in a variety of activities from coffee mornings , and golf to cycling and running While there may have been an outburst of thunder and lightning on Friday evening it did not detract from the amazing efforts and commitment made by many all over the country to help us help the many families that need our support

.

The weekend kicked off early last Thursday where we were delighted to have the wonderful Joy Neville join us for a musical coffee morning in the beautiful  surroundings of Castletroy Golf Club. The lady members in Castletroy pulled out all the stops to ensure this was a a very successful and enjoyable event , hearing  Joy’s experience of her  journey so far, while listening to the lovely music of Treble & Bass and concluding with a very entertaining fashion show by some of the members.

The day continued with the commencement of the Club Limerick Golf  Classic which we were delighted to be charity partner once again for the 4th year in a row. The classic ran over 2 days on the magnificent course at Castletroy which lent itself to a fantastic 2 days and some high scores. We are particularly delighted with the support for the Women’s only  Competition on the Friday morning from which we received a portion of the registration fee . 9 teams of 4 lined out with members from clubs all over Limerick and beyond, We are extremely grateful to Sean Scanlan and all his team at Limerick GAA for this wonderful opportunity to raise and and increase our profile.

Friday concluded with the Ciara Mc Carthy memorial Cycle , organised by the wonderful Boher Community Development Council. It was a 40km cycle with shorter options for the less experienced cyclists.  Ciara Mc Carthy passed away 5 years ago after battling with cancer for a number of years. We were privileged to be able to support her family during her period of treatment and they and their extended family and community have been more then generous of their fundraising efforts for us since. There was a fantastic turnout of approx 135 cyclists of all ages and while those that took the shorter route did so in wonderful sunshine the seasoned  cyclists endured thunder and torrential rain on their route and were glad of the refreshments that greeted them at the finish

The weekend finished out with 30,000 participating in the VHI Womens MIni Marathon in Dublin and we were very grateful to have Eimear Kehoe, Gill Shannon, Margaret Shannon and Alicja Mrufka who donned Purple and ran for Cliona’s Foundation in intense heat . Huge effort and commitment by each one of them and delighted to have Cliona’s Foundation feature at such an event

So it really was a busy weekend with people being unbelievably generous of their time, energy and money to ensure we can continue to help supporting all those families that are struggling to care for their sick child .Words cannot truly express our gratitude to them but we can assure them all  that the financial assistance we can provide as a result of their support will make a big differance
